Bishop John Rodrigues has been appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Bombay by Pope Francis. The announcement was made public on Saturday afternoon in Rome, coinciding with the Feast of St Andrew the Apostle.
Born on August 21, 1967, in Mumbai, Bishop Rodrigues was ordained a priest on April 18, 1988, for the archdiocese of Bombay. Over time, he served in varied roles, together with assistant parish priest at St Michael Church, Mahim (1998-1999), secretary of the archbishop of Bombay (1999-2000), and professor of systematic theology at St Pius X Faculty (2010-2013).
On March 25, 2023, he was appointed bishop of Poona and assumed canonical possession of the diocese on Could 24, 2023.
Reflecting on his tenure within the metropolis, Bishop John Rodrigues mentioned, “Once I look again on one and a half years as Bishop of Poona, I thank God for all of the expertise, strolling along with clergymen and all spiritual leaders, attending to know them — the clergymen, nuns, consecrated individuals and the trustworthy.
