Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam stated on Friday he has requested for an impartial overview of a confidential draft settlement with Britain over the way forward for the Chagos Islands.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated on Thursday he was assured that the deal to safe the way forward for a U.S.-British army base on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia could be ratified.

Starmer needs to finalise an October political settlement that palms Mauritius sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, whereas securing a 99-year lease on the bottom.
